Join us for lunch with the Clarke Middle!
The Clarke Middle School Kitchen Garden Corps is a five-week, summer job training and leadership program aimed at providing middle school students valuable work related skills and the opportunity to contribute to their community through improving access to fresh, local, and healthy food. Throughout the summer, participating middle school students have cultivating food in the CMS school garden, cooked alongside some of Athens’s finest chefs from restaurants like Five & Ten, Cinco y Diez, and The National, and prepared three-course meals each Thursday at a “pop-up restaurant” at Clarke Middle School open to community members.
As part of its “Chamber in Schools” initiative, the Education Committee of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Kitchen Garden Corps lunch at Clarke Middle School on August 1. Come hear from program participants as well as Principal Tad McMillan about the valuable work related skills students are learning through this program, and enjoy some delicious food prepared and served by Kitchen Garden Corps members!
3-Course Menu
Starter: Fried eggplant medallions with pesto mayonnaise and fresh garden tomatoes
Entree: Margherita Pizza accompanied by Italian style meatballs with ground beef and pork from the UGA Meat Science and Technology Center
Dessert: Buttermilk Poundcake Trifle with Lemon Lavender Custard
When: 12:00-1:00 PM August 1, 2014

Please join us on Friday, August 15, 2014 on the University of North Georgia Oconee Campus located at 1201 Bishop Farms Pkwy in Watkinsville. We will be meeting a little earlier since there will be a large crowd so please arrive by 11:00 a.m. and we will be done by 1:00 p.m. We will be gathering in the Student Resource Center, room 522. Lunch will be provided by the college’s catering. Eric Skipper, University of North Georgia Oconee CEO, will discuss the programs the college is currently offering, expansion opportunities and lead the group in short tour of the beautiful campus.
